Neither wars nor calamities, nor epidemics nor pandemics, but a poor system of education is enough to destroy a nation!

Greetings from the Principal, KPPM College of Teacher Education (KPPMCTE), a premier educational institution of the University of Calicut.

I believe that education is the birthright of every human being. Education prepares an individual to struggle with his surroundings to survive productively and harmoniously, utilising his physical, intellectual, and spiritual faculties. A true education emancipates one from all sorts of bonds and exploitations and produces a resilient and self-reliant individual.

Teachers are the destiny-makers of a society and nation. The Indian concept of guru is above God (Kabir Das). The Guru is like the omnipotent Parabrahma. This leads to the noble ideology of “Vasudhaiva Kudumbakam”. In present-day India, we need great teachers to restore the quality of education, ensuring the values enshrined by our forefathers blend with modern technologies and methodologies for committed and self-reliant citizens.

The role of teacher education in this context is crucial. Teacher education institutions are the major stakeholders in the nation’s development by contributing to the potential teachers who selflessly contribute to constructing a generous world community. Every change that occurs in our society is a reflection of the teacher education institution. Hence, the function and activities of teacher education institutions are highly significant in society.

We strive to mould highly competent, confident, and self-reliant future teachers to work for sustainable development throughout. At KPPM College of Teacher Education, we are confident that we can fulfil both of these aspects while providing a third dimension of having our student teachers study in a multicultural environment. Multiculturalism is the reality in the world in which we all live today, and our Indian history taught us to live with Tolerance. Studying at KPPM College of Teacher Education causes student teachers to understand and respect each other’s backgrounds and points of view. This is something they will find incredibly useful in their future lives. Each student teacher arrives with their own view of what is ‘normal’ and the discussions that ensue once all of these ideas are expressed in one space are truly fascinating.

We understand that to achieve their potential, student teachers need excellent teaching and individual support. Our student teachers benefit from high levels of attention from their teachers and their mentor teachers. The encouragement provided by all staff to student teachers helps them attain their goals. Our academic programmes offer significant flexibility so that student teachers can follow the best path for them through their studies.

An excellent teacher education establishment expects its student teachers to be inquisitive, ambitious, dedicated, self-reliant, and resilient. We nurture their intellectual spirit and challenge them to become independent and take on leadership. An emphasis is put on academics and extracurricular activities, as a healthy balance creates a well-rounded teacher for a future generation ready to tackle the challenges of our ever-evolving universe.
